Future Fluxus - The alternative Net we need and how we can build it ourselves

Fluxus was the first globalised and networked art community that actually … worked. Next year, - art historians agree -, its 50th birthday could be celebrated. Without remembering the past we are doomed to repeat if. But there may not even be the slightest hint of a “unity of art and life” in 2012 without rethinking the technological implications of what it means to stay connected without losing the right for anonymous interchange, what it means to be able able to trust your local journalists or what it means to enjoy social networking without any central server behind “the cloud” eagerly datamining the movements of our daily life, the more the better. Fluxus cannot safe the world, as Fluxus pioneer Ben Vautier remarked. But its methods and attitudes may still be able to inspire current attempts to form alternative networks in our days, the days of transition.

Birgitta Jónsdóttir, artist & activist, Member of the Althing, the Icelandic Parliament, since 2009. The Althing is  She is on the board of the Icelandic Modern Media Initiative which is regarded as the most progressive media legislation worldwide. She also founded greenleaks, a whistleblowing platform specialising in environmental issues, and was a member of Wikileaks while publishing the collateral murder video in 2010. (remote)

Kuba Szreder is sociologist & curator from Poland and currently PhD-candidate in Loughbourough School of the Arts where he researches social, economic and public aspects of curatorial technique. He is initiator of Free / Slow University of Warsaw and other projects.

Bronac Ferran, artist and curator, Royal College of Art London, her work has a focus on research in areas of art, science, technology, law, media and cultural production. `The production of value from the poetics of difference´

Tomas Zierhofer-Kin, artistic director of the donaufestival fot networked performance arts in Krems, Lower Austria

Danja Vaisiliev, project Newstweek and 120 days of *buntu, together with Gordon Savicic he is part of the moddr_lab with the art collective WORM, Rotterdam.

Thomas Geiger, performer and conceptual artist, is living and working in Vienna and is engaged in the group of performing artists on cyberperformances and other aspects of performative practises with or without technical media.

Heiko Kremer is an artist and theoretician. Since 2007, he has been working as an assistent of Chantal Mouffe for the ongoing seminar “The Public in Question” at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and is currently researching for his PhD about the legacy of the philosophical thought of Ernst Bloch.
